FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 12, 2007) – The Governor’s Task Force on Campus Safety will hold a series of open forums in which students and staff can voice their concerns about safety and security and suggest solutions to perceived problems. The forums will be held on six campuses across Kentucky.
The task force is charged with undertaking a comprehensive review of all aspects of campus security policies and practices. The objective is to institute adjustments and improvements to maintain a safer and more secure campus environment at all of Kentucky’s public and private postsecondary education institutions.
Governor Ernie Fletcher created the task force in November and appointed Gail Minger as its chairwoman. Gail Minger’s son, Michael Minger, died in a dormitory fire at Murray State University in 1998.
“We are holding these public forums to give students, other members of the campus communities, as well as interested citizens, the opportunity to share their concerns about campus safety issues with members of the task force,” Minger said.
The open campus forums will be held at six locations throughout the state during March. Interested persons from public universities, community and technical colleges, and private colleges and universities are encouraged to attend the forums.
