FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State Park Foundation met for the first time this week and elected officers and approved bylaws.

The 12-member foundation was established to protect and advocate for the natural, historical and cultural resources of the park system through fundraising and other activities.

Isabel Yates of Lexington was elected chair; Alan Hoeweler of Cincinnati was elected vice chair; Judy King Cowgill of Lexington was elected secretary and Charles Miller of Prestonsburg was elected treasurer.

The foundation and its board are independent from state government. The foundation will be allowed to accept grants and private gifts to help support its mission. Besides supporting the overall state parks system, the foundation will also help develop volunteer “friends” groups that will support individual parks and historic sites.
