Old Mulkey Meetinghouse to Host Clown Camp for Kids
TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. -- Old Mulkey Meetinghouse State Historic Site will host “Clown Camp” on Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18, 2008. The two-day camp for children age 10 and over will give participants an intensive hands-on learning experience on street performing and clowning as taught by members of “The Clockwork Clown & Co.”
Sessions will include juggling, mime, slight-of-hand, make-up, and costumes/props. At the end of the two-day session the participants will join their instructors in “Clown Camp Showcase”. The showcase, which is open to the public, will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday. Clown Camp will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. Participants should be picked up at the park shelter on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and after the Showcase on Friday.
Pre-registration for Clown Camp is required by July 11. A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold the program. A maximum of 30 participants will be accepted. Cost is $18.00 per day per camper. Participants will need to bring items from home for the Showcase. In addition all campers must furnish their own lunch and snacks. The oldest log meetinghouse in Kentucky was built in 1804 during a period of religious revival. Many Revolutionary War soldiers and pioneers, including Daniel Boone’s sister, Hannah, are buried here. The structure has twelve corners in the shape of a cross and three doors, symbolic of the Holy Trinity. The site is about 25 miles south of the Edmonton exit on the Cumberland Parkway. Take KY 163 from Edmonton to Tompkinsville. Take the Old Mulkey Road (KY 1446) about two miles past Tompkinsville to the site. From I-65, take the Cumberland Parkway to Glasgow, follow KY 90 from Glasgow, and turn south onto KY 163 to Tompkinsville.
