Will improve roads in Floyd, Jefferson, Christian, Scott and Perry counties

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 8, 2013) – In an ongoing effort to improve existing roads throughout the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has awarded five contracts, totaling nearly $5 million, for projects to provide much-needed repair of asphalt pavement on state and U.S. routes in five Kentucky counties.

The largest of the group is a $3.71 million project for a 5.7-mile section of KY 80 (Martin-Prestonburg Road) in Floyd County. The project area begins near mile point 8.6 and extends to mile point 14.3. Mountain Enterprises Inc. was awarded the contract, which calls for work to be completed by Aug. 31, 2013.

The Kentucky Highway Plan contains funding for pavement rehabilitation on numerous roadways in need of repair.

Other rehabilitation projects awarded by the Cabinet in February were:

• Jefferson County – Fisherville Road (KY 148) from KY 155 to the Jefferson-Shelby County line, a distance of 3.33 miles, and East Manslick Road (KY 2845) from KY 61 to KY 864, a distance of 3.78 miles. Riverside Paving and Contracting Inc. was awarded the contract for $537,293. Completion date: June 30, 2013.

• Christian County – Cadiz Road (U.S. 68) from the bridge over Sinking Fork (mile point 3.6) extending east to Cadiz Road No. 2 (mile point 6.2), a distance of 2.65 miles.  Rogers Group Inc. was awarded the contract for $313,584. Completion date: Aug. 31, 2013.

• Scott County – Frogtown Road (KY 608) from the Owen County line extending east to U.S. 25, a distance of 3.71 miles. A section from mile point 3.158 to mile point 3.472 is omitted from the project because it was recently resurfaced as part of a separate project. Nally and Gibson Georgetown LLC was awarded the project for $224,689. Completion date: May 31, 2013.

• Perry County — Hazard-Whitesburg Road (KY 15) from 0.28 miles north of Acup Road extending north to the south end of the bridge at North Fork of Kentucky River, a distance of 1.47 miles. Mountain Enterprises Inc was awarded the contract for $118,010. Completion date: Aug. 31, 2013.
