After securing a basket of gourmet goods from Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette after last night's University of Louisville win in the NCAA Men's Championship, General Conway today is placing a friendly wager with Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen on tonight's women's championship game. General Conway is placing a Kentucky country ham on the line, and General Jepsen is wagering a selection of Connecticut wines on the game tonight featuring the University of Louisville Lady Cards and the University of Connecticut Huskies.
"The University of Louisville Cardinals are on a roll after winning the NCAA Men's National Championship, and I fully expect our Lady Cards to pull off the exacta and bring the women's national title home to Kentucky," said General Conway, whose wife is a UofL graduate. "I look forward to sampling the Connecticut spirits with my snacks that will soon be arriving from Michigan."
If Connecticut wins, General Conway will send Attorney General Jepsen a Meacham Country Ham from Union County. Union County is where General Conway's father grew up. Attorney General Jepsen, who is a big UConn fan, had no problem betting on his seven-time NCAA National Champion Huskies.
"There's no question that the Cardinals are flying high after taking the men's national championship against Michigan last night. But the Louisville women are going to need more than wings and prayers to stop Breanna Stewart and keep the UConn Huskies from winning their eighth national title."
Tip off for tonight's national championship game is 8:30 ET. The game is a rematch of the 2009 championship game. UofL and UConn are both members of the Big East Conference.
