Kentucky Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson today announced that Bryan Henson will be named as the PREA Coordinator for the department. The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was signed into law Sept. 4, 2003. PREA is intended to address the detection, prevention, reduction and prosecution of sexual harassment and abuse in all correctional facilities in the country. Henson will assume his new duties on Nov. 1.

“I am certain Bryan will do an excellent job in his new position,” said Thompson. “He is uniquely qualified to serve in this capacity due to his education, correctional administrative experience and the experience he has gained from managing both male and female inmate populations in secure and non-secure settings.”

Henson began his corrections career as a correctional officer at Western Kentucky Correctional Complex (WKCC) in July 1989. He was promoted to classification and treatment officer in 1990 and classification and treatment officer II in 1999. In Oct. 2000 Henson assumed the duties of correctional unit administrator II. He was promoted to deputy warden at WKCC in November 2005 and was again promoted to warden in Sept. 2009. Henson was serving as warden at WKCC during that facility’s conversion to an all-female population in April 2010.

Henson is a 1989 graduate of Murray State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He and his wife Sheri reside in Livingston County with their twin daughters, Kelsee and Kinsee.
