Judge JonesFRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear has appointed Allison Jones as Court of Appeals judge for the 6th Appellate District, Division 1. District 6 is composed of 21 counties: Bath, Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Fleming, Gallatin, Grant, Harrison, Henry, Kenton, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, Oldham, Owen, Pendleton, Robertson, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble.

Jones, of Oldham County, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Justice Michelle M. Keller, who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Kentucky in April.

“Judge Jones comes to the Court of Appeals ready for the important work of the Court,” Gov. Beshear said. “Her previous service as an administrative law judge and her work in federal court positions as well as in private practice make her well qualified to serve the Commonwealth on the appellate court.”

“I am honored to accept Gov. Beshear’s appointment,” Judge Jones said. “I am humbled by the confidence of the Governor, Chief Justice Minton and the Judicial Nominating Commission. The foundation of our justice system rests upon a fair and independent judiciary. My judicial decisions will be grounded in the Constitution and based upon the facts and the law of each case. I look forward to representing the citizens in the 6th District and throughout the Commonwealth.”

Judge Jones previously presided over workers’ compensation claims as an administrative law judge for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She also served as a staff attorney for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky for more than five years and was a former law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge John G. Heyburn II of the Western District of Kentucky.

Before her judicial service in federal and state courts, Judge Jones practiced at Stites & Harbison PLLC in Kentucky, specializing in business litigation and intellectual property matters. She also previously practiced in California.

Judge Jones was sworn into office by Chief Court of Appeals Judge Glenn E. Acree on July 12. A formal investiture will take place Sept. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Campbell County Courthouse in Newport, where Judge Jones has her chambers.

Judge Jones is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law and Transylvania University, earning magna cum laude honors from both institutions. She has been active in community service, including as a volunteer advocate for victims of domestic violence prior to her judicial service.
