FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear was named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Education and Workforce Committee by NGA Chair Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and NGA Vice Chair Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.
The Education and Workforce Committee has jurisdiction over issues in the area of education (including early childhood, K-12 and postsecondary), as well as in the areas of workforce development. Members of the committee ensure that the governors’ views are represented in the shaping of federal policy.
“I am happy to serve as part of the 2013-2014 NGA Education and Workforce Committee,” said Gov. Beshear. “Education and workforce development are a constant priority for all governors. I look forward to working on education policies affecting the states in the coming year.”
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will serve as vice chair of the committee.
