FRANKFORT, Ky. – New park managers have been named at Kenlake State Resort Park and Big Bone Lick State Historic Site, Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker announced today.


Joe Mounce, a native of Somerset, is the new park manager at Kenlake State Resort Park at Aurora. Mounce has a master’s degree in recreation and park administration from  Eastern Kentucky University, where he also earned a degree in political science.


Mounce worked as a program director with the YMCA in Somerset and joined the park system as a business manager in 2010 at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park.  He most recently served as the business manager for Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.


Dean Henson, a 26-year veteran of Kentucky State Parks, is the new manager at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in Union. Henson most recently served as the naturalist at Pine Mountain State Resort Park at Pineville.


He has held positions at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Fort Boonesborough State Park, Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park and Lake Barkley State Resort Park. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in anthropology, with an emphasis in archaeology.

Mounce and Henson began their new positions July 16.




The Kentucky State Park System is composed of 49 state parks plus an interstate park shared with Virginia. The Department of Parks, an agency of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, operates 17 resort parks with lodges -- more than any other state.
