FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Octavio Herrera, 26, of Caldwell, Idaho, died on Aug. 11 in Paktia Province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Herrera will be held on Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Mountain time at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Caldwell, Idaho. Interment will immediately follow at Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
