FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2013)The Public Records Division of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) recently selected Preservica, the digital preservation service offered by Tessella, for long-term preservation of Kentucky state government records.

KDLA was the only state government agency in the United States to participate in a test audit of the Trusted Digital Repository standard before it was adopted by the International Standards Organization. The 2012 audit gave KDLA the opportunity to consider options for expanding and improving its existing digital repository and to manage the growing volume of digital content that the archives receives from Kentucky state government agencies.

“The Kentucky State Archives has been active in working on solutions for electronic records program development and digital preservation for the past 30 years,” said Barbara Teague, state archivist and Records Administrator and Public Records Division director at KDLA.

“Our participation in the test audit gave us a good understanding of the gaps in our digital preservation strategy. We did a thorough analysis of several different long-term solutions before choosing Preservica.”

Jon Tilbury, director of Archiving Solutions for Tessella, said, “KDLA is one of the largest state archives collections in the U.S. and has been a pioneer in electronic records since the early 80s, so we are delighted that they chose Preservica as part of their vision to become a Trusted Digital Repository.”

Preservica is based on the advanced technology in use at leading national archives and libraries, and is supported by Tessella, a world leader in digital preservation solutions. For more information about Preservica and Tessella, see http://www.preservica.com and http://www.tessella.com.
