FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, June 15, 2013, in honor of two Fort Campbell soldiers who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Robert A. Pierce, 20, of Huntington, Ark., and 2nd Lt. Justin L. Sisson, 23, of Phoenix, Ariz., died June 3, in Tsamkani, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their unit was attacked by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Spc. Pierce will held on June 15 at 10 a.m. Central time at Community Bible Church in Fort Smith, Ark. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith.

Funeral services for 2nd Lt. Sisson will held on June 15 at 10 a.m. Central time at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan. Interment will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
