A water pipe break has closed the Erlanger branch of the Kenton Office of Circuit Court Clerk until further notice, according to Circuit Court Clerk John Middleton. The closure took effect Sept. 3.

Prior to the closure, the public could obtain driver licenses, permits, permit applications for new drivers, commercial driver licenses and motorcycle licenses at the Kentucky State Police Driver Testing facility in Erlanger.

“I apologize for the inconvenience to the public,” Middleton said. “However, the safety of the public and my employees is a priority.”

Middleton said that citizens have two other locations where they can obtain all of the services that were available at the Erlanger branch. They can visit the circuit court clerks’ main office at the Kenton County Justice Center in Covington and the circuit court clerk’s other branch at the Courthouse in Independence. The addresses for these locations are:

Kenton County Justice Center
230 Madison Ave., 2nd Floor
Covington, Ky.
859-292-6523, ext. 516

Independence Court House
5272 Madison Pike
Independence, Ky.
859-356-5925

The Kentucky State Police continue to be responsible for administering written tests for driving permits and road tests for driver licenses. Citizens who have questions about those tests should contact the Kentucky State Police at 859-727-8100.

“The process for those seeking a driver permit, driver license, commercial driver license or motorcycle license is to visit the circuit court clerk’s office in Covington or Independence to complete an application,” Middleton said. “Individuals will then need to take the written test and driving test through the Kentucky State Police. The final step is to return to our Covington or Independence office to obtain the permit or license.”
