GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park will host a Chautauqua presentation of “Colonel” Harland Sanders, the creator of Kentucky Fried Chicken, on Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lodge Meeting Room.
Sanders is played by L. Henry Dowell, a performer who also plays Dr. Ephraim McDowell for the Chautauqua program. The event is free.
After developing his special recipe in Corbin, Sanders worked to develop the brand. The image of him wearing a white suit and string tie, along with his signature goatee and mustache, soon became synonymous with his fried chicken.
Kentucky Chautauqua is an exclusive presentation of the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc. with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and from: The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, People’s Bank & Trust Company of Hazard, the Brown-Forman Corp., Union College, Scripps Howard Foundation, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, PNC Bank in Lexington, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America Inc.
