On Saturday, April 12, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “Repurposed & Recycled: Works by Kentucky Artisans,” and the lobby exhibit, “Kentucky Bourbon: Distillation and Inspiration.” 

“Repurposed & Recycled” features work by over 40 artists and includes pieces made from a wide variety of recycled materials, from antique lightning rods to scrap paint to dehydrated tree frogs.

The lobby exhibit covers the history of Kentucky bourbon and production of this unique drink with details showing the location of Kentucky distilleries with tours and products made from recycled bourbon barrels.

These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center staff, who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Staff will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. This tour will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.

In addition, on April 12, Mike Ware, of Hindman, will be demonstrating pottery on the wheel with incised decoration from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
