FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting applications through June 15 from schools and school districts interested in having a consultant assist in developing plans and assessment tools for integrating the arts across the curriculum.

The Specialists With Arts Tactics (SWAT) grant provides short-term technical assistance to Kentucky public or private school, pre-K through 12th grade. SWAT consultants are arts education professionals from across the Commonwealth who have a wide variety of expertise related to arts education. Each consultant has received training focused on current arts education issues.

"Kentucky schools have been very responsive to the SWAT program since it started a few years ago," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "The program previously was open for applications all year. We have reworked the program guidelines to allow for two application periods, one for the fall and one for the spring, to be better equipped to assist schools in developing their curriculum."

The SWAT grant provides arts education professionals to schools for three- to six-hour consultancies to assist in aligning curriculum with the Arts and Humanities Program Review, developing school or districtwide arts plans, and developing formative and summative assessments. Consultancies may be scheduled for one day or over a period of time.

The arts council will pay the consultancy fee for approved applications. Grants of $200 for a three-hour consultancy or $400 for a six-hour consultancy are paid directly to the approved consultants. The applicants are responsible for the consultant's travel, meals and lodging expenses, as well as incidental costs such as photocopying, long-distance phone calls and postage, if necessary.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
