FRANKFORT, Ky. – After spending the day hiking, fishing or exploring, there’s no better way to take a break than to enjoy a good meal of bison or traditional wild game. The Kentucky State Parks are offering several opportunities like that during the winter months.


With 17 state resort parks with restaurants, the Kentucky State Parks offer a wide variety of good food across the state, including many Kentucky Proud items. For more information about the parks, including reservations for lodge rooms and cottages, visit www.parks.ky.gov


Here are some of the special meals planned during January, February and March:


Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, Prestonsburg

Buffalo Night, Jan. 26

Enjoy a festive buffet meal of buffalo meat and all the fixings, including carved buffalo, fried chicken, buffalo chili, catfish and assorted vegetables and desserts. Planned nature and recreation activities are available as well. Bring the whole family to this annual event.  Serving time is noon to 8 p.m. The cost for adults is $17.95 plus tax and children ages 6-12 are $8.95 plus tax. Children 5 and under eat free. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, Jamestown

Pioneer Prairie Bison Feast, Jan. 26

The Pioneer Prairie Bison Feast will feature traditional bison and vegetable side dishes prepared to tantalize the taste buds. The menu will include carved “Kentucky Proud” round of bison, Southwest-style buffalo chili, smoky barbecued buffalo, chuck wagon buffalo stew, as well as other delicious bison entrees.  The cost is $19.95 per person, $9.95 children, and the buffet will be served from 5-8 p.m. Central time. Barren River Lake State Resort Park, Lucas

Buffalo Night, Feb. 2

Travel back in time with a taste of the past at Driftwood Restaurant! The buffet will be served 5-8 p.m. and will include carved steamship round of buffalo, buffalo sirloin tips, buffalo wings, spicy buffalo chili, fried catfish, grilled corn on the cob, grilled vegetables, wild rice and assorted fruits and salads. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, Gilbertsville

Elk and Bison Buffet, Feb. 23

Kentucky Dam Village presents a special buffet from noon until 8 p.m. It will include bison steamship round carved on the line, wild boar with honey chipotle barbecue sauce, cornmeal-dusted catfish, elk meatloaf, Southern fried chicken, spicy duck stir-fry, Cajun frog legs, bison taco pie and bison chili. There will be plenty of vegetables and desserts, including banana pudding and baked Alaska. The buffet for adults is $19.95 plus tax and for children ages 12 and under $9.95 plus tax. Appalachian Wild Game Dinner, March 2

Enjoy a buffet with a menu that includes baked quail, fried catfish, frog legs, country-style ribs and smokehouse chili. The vegetable selection will feature home fried potatoes, mountaintop half runner green beans, sour fried green apples, hollow picked corn on the cob, turnip greens and more. The buffet will also have cornbread muffins and rolls. Complete your meal with Appalachian desserts and assorted fruit cobblers. Frontier Night Buffet, March 8

Pine Mountain State Resort Park will be hosting its Frontier Night Buffet in the Mountain View Restaurant on Friday, March 8, from 5-8 p.m. The buffet will include elk, venison, bison, rabbit, frog legs and catfish with hushpuppies. There will be an assortment of side dishes, along with soup, salad and dessert bar. Rough River Dam State Resort Park, Falls of Rough

Buffalo and Wild Game Dinner, March 23

In the mood for something different for dinner?
