FRANKFORT, Ky. – Seasonal access
to the Salt River above Taylorsville Lake reopens this weekend in preparation
for the coming white bass spawning run.
The Palmer Road access on
Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will remain open from daylight
until dark from March 15 – April 11. The gravel road which parallels the Salt
River in the WMA is normally gated to vehicles except during quota deer hunts
in fall.
The seasonal access allows anglers
easy access to two miles of bank fishing off Old River Road. The area includes two
gravel parking lots with space for 10-15 vehicles and several one car pull-offs
spread along the roadway. The road will close to vehicular traffic once spring
turkey season starts April 12. Old River Road will remain open during the
youth-only turkey season on April 5-6.
The road is accessible only off
Palmer Road in Anderson County. Old River Road is gated at its eastern and
western ends. Palmer Road connects to KY 1579, which ends at the Van Buren Boat
Ramp at Taylorsville Lake.
Maps of Taylorsville WMA and other wildlife management
areas are available online at fw.ky.gov,
the website of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
