FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Jamar A. Hicks, 22, of Little Rock, Ark., died on Aug. 11 at Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khost, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Sgt. Hicks will be held on Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. Central time at Theressa Hoover United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark. Interment will immediately follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at North Little Rock in North Little Rock, Ark. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
