The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided gallery tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea: Celebrating 10 Years,” and the center’s lobby exhibit, “Connected by a Thread: Quilts by the Kentucky Six+” on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The exhibit, “The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea: Celebrating 10 Years,” recognizes the works of 52 Kentucky artisans who have exhibited and sold their works at the Center since it opened in July 2003. 2013 marks the Center’s 10th anniversary year, and this celebratory exhibit includes all mediums, from wooden toys to silk clothing, painted gourds, ceramics, folk art, photographs, jewelry, baskets, weavings, turned wood and more.

The center’s lobby exhibit, “Connected by a Thread: Quilts by the Kentucky Six+” features works that are based on a quilt challenge with the theme “Working in a Series.” These seven fiber artists have each created three small quilts using individual themes. The “Kentucky Six+, is a group of fiber artists who make art quilts and have been meeting together for 12 years. Their goal is to support one another in learning innovative ways to use fabric in order to express themselves in this art form.

These free guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center staff who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Staff will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. This tour will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.

Also on June 8, Janet Northern will demonstrate honeysuckle vine and hickory bark baskets from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the center.

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Celebrating 10 years in 2013, the center currently features works by more than 650 artisans from more than 100 counties across the Commonwealth.
