Improvements to the passenger waiting area, relocation of beacon funded

FRANKFORT – Governor Steve Beshear today announced the award of $1 million in federal grant money to the Owensboro-Daviess County Airport Board.

The grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will fund a large percentage of the Owensboro-Daviess County Airport’s project to relocate an existing beacon to a new location to improve visibility and the final phase of a project to improve the terminal building. The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.11 million.

“These grants help our local and regional airports continue to provide vital connections that keep our state’s economic opportunities soaring,” Gov. Beshear said. “We are pleased to see the Owensboro-Daviess County airport can continue its renovations.”

The terminal project, which was completed in three phases, increases the size of the passenger waiting area and makes other improvements to facilitate the movement of passengers and baggage. The grant reimburses the airport for 90 percent of the total cost.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Department of Aviation will pay 5 percent of the project – $55,556 – and the Owensboro-Daviess County Airport Board will pay the remaining 5 percent.
