Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes recently appointed Robert M. Haynes as Executive Director of the Office of Business. Haynes will oversee business filings and manage the office’s online business services, issuing and authenticating business records and maintaining UCC finance statements. He will also attend to legislative initiatives related to business entities.

“Rob’s background in public administration and economic development will be a tremendous asset to this office,” said Grimes. “His demonstrated commitment to public service and moving Kentucky forward make him a great addition to the outstanding team we have here.”

Haynes has more than ten years of experience in government, economic development and community relations at both the state and local levels, including in the administrations of Governors Paul Patton and Steve Beshear and the city of Louisville. He has served as the Local Government Advisor and Federal Grant Administrator for the Kentucky Department of Local Government and, most recently, Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator for the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood.

In addition to his work in the public sector, Haynes has served as an adviser to small businesses and corporations. In 2010, he spent the year assisting with economic recovery efforts following the Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster. And prior to joining the city of Louisville, Haynes managed his family’s small business for several years.

Haynes has a Bachelor of Science in Business Communication from Spalding University in Louisville. He lives in Frankfort and is involved in numerous community organizations, including American Red Cross, Volunteers of America-Kentucky, Urban Agriculture and the YMCA Teen Leadership Program. He is also a member of the Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby Official Host Committee.
