FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 6, 2017) – On Saturday, First Lady Glenna Bevin hosted her second annual “Hearts to Hands” event. Mrs. Bevin invited thirty children from Home of the Innocents to enjoy a special day at Afterglow Salon & Spa, which donated their services to the participants.
Home of the Innocents is a Louisville facility where vulnerable children and youth find emotional, physical and intellectual support.
“These are some of Kentucky’s most vulnerable children,” said Mrs. Bevin. “Some of these kids have unspeakable pasts that we cannot begin to imagine. We wanted to show them the love they deserve to feel every day.”
Following their visit to the salon, the children joined Mrs. Bevin for lunch at the Governor’s Mansion. They also had the opportunity to tour the Capitol and participate in activities with athletes from the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky.
“We are grateful for the invitation for our kids to spend the day with the First Lady,” said Meredith Pack with Home of the Innocents. “Everyone had an amazing time. All the kids felt at home and welcome. The family and staff were gracious and made the day so special for them. The kids told us this is something they will remember their entire lives!”
Each child also received a gift bag made possible by the community’s donations and contributions from Kroger.
This event is one of many hosted by the First Lady that encompasses the passion she and the Governor share for those in the child welfare system. Child advocacy has been a cornerstone of Mrs. Bevin’s tenure as First Lady.
