Gov. Bevin and First Lady to Host Downtown Derby Celebration in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 4, 2017) – Gov. Matt Bevin and First Lady Glenna Bevin cordially invite all Kentuckians and their guests to join them at the Governor’s Downtown Derby Celebration in Frankfort on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Glenna and I are honored to welcome everyone to the 2017 Downtown Derby Celebration,” said Gov. Bevin. “Once again, this year’s ‘Run for the Roses’ will be the highlight of a fun-filled weekend in the Commonwealth. We are thrilled to celebrate ‘the most exciting two minutes in sports’ in the Capital City with our fellow Kentuckians.”

Saturday’s event will feature musical entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities, educational displays, and competitions for both the young and young at heart.

Gov. Bevin will serve as official starter for the YMCA Derby Dash for youth along Broadway Street. Attendees can also participate in the Pedal for the Posies adult tri-cycle race, stick horse races on the Old Capitol lawn, Derby hat making with the Kentucky Historical Society, and much more.

The official 2017 Derby poster will be available for purchase at the Kentucky Department of Tourism booth on the Old Capitol lawn. (They can also be ordered online at: http://historicproperties.ky.gov.)

This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at Commonwealth Credit Union (417 High Street) and the Capital Plaza Tower parking garage (500 Mero Street).
