Gov. Bevin Orders Flags to Half-Staff Friday in Honor of Fort Campbell Soldiers

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 22, 2017) - Gov. Matt Bevin has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff Friday, June 23, 2017, in honor of Fort Campbell soldiers Sgt. William M. Bays, 29, and Corporal Dillon C. Baldridge, 22, who died while supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Services for Sgt. Bays will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Belmont Cemetery in Allensville; and services for Corporal Baldridge will be at 4 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, Gardens & Mausoleum in Crumpler, N.C.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Bays and Corporal Baldridge died on June 10, 2017 in Peka Valley, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, of gunshot wounds sustained there. The incident is under investigation.

Gov. Bevin encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute of lowering the flag in honor of Sgt. Bays and Corporal Baldridge.
