FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 21, 2017) – Gov. Matt Bevin today appointed Shelly L. Alvey, of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky, as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 55th Judicial Circuit of Kentucky.
“I sincerely thank Governor Matt Bevin and his administration for bestowing this responsibility and allowing me to serve and protect the citizens of this great Commonwealth,” said Alvey. “My commitment is to aggressively protect every member of our community just as I would a member of my family. I am honored to serve the citizens of Bullitt County and will strive to do justice in every case.”
Alvey served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Jefferson County from 2002 to 2005 and 2014 to 2017. Most recently, she was assigned to the Violent Crime Unit, where she prosecuted career criminals and gang-related offenses. From 2011-2014, Alvey served as the First Assistant Bullitt County Attorney during which time she prosecuted parents accused of child abuse and supervised the team of prosecutors who prosecuted impaired drivers.
Alvey is a native of Breathitt County. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Morehead State University and her law degree from the University of Louisville. Alvey moved to Bullitt County in 2006 and resides there with her husband Shayne and their two children.
Alvey shall serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the Nov. 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
