FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 24, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Gene Smallwood Jr., of Whitesburg, as Judge of the Court of Appeals for Kentucky’s 7th Appellate District, Division 2.
Smallwood is the surviving partner of the law firm of Polly & Smallwood, where he has practiced for 40 years.
“I sincerely appreciate Gov. Bevin’s appointment and the opportunity to serve the people of Kentucky as Judge of the Court of Appeals, 7th District,” said Smallwood. “I pledge that I will serve with integrity, fairness, and compassion as their Judge. I would ask for their prayers as I undertake this endeavor.”
After receiving his bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and English from the University of Michigan, Smallwood earned his juris doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
Smallwood and his wife Suzanne have two adult children, Megan Kissel and Dr. Jordan Smallwood.
He will serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
