FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2018) – Governor Matt Bevin and First Lady Glenna Bevin today joined community partners to announce the results of the 2018 Shop & Share fundraiser for domestic violence shelters in the Commonwealth.
Shoppers at more than 120 Kroger and other grocery stores across Kentucky donated $585,800 in supplies and funds during the 9th annual Shop & Share event on Saturday, Feb. 3 — a one-day goods drive organized by the First Lady.
“In Kentucky, one-third of women report abuse in their lifetime, and many of those women turn to shelters to escape the violence and rebuild their lives,” said Mrs. Bevin. “This initiative is vital to our communities so that we can help these women in their journey. I am thankful for all partners and volunteers who made this year’s Shop & Share successful.”
On Shop & Share day, volunteers at Kroger, Food City, Super Dollar, and IGA stores provided a list of items needed at Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCADV) shelters. These items include non-perishable foods, school supplies, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies.
Organizational partners for Shop & Share include the First Lady’s Office, KCADV, Kroger, Food City, Super Dollar, IGA, General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, Girl Scouts of Wilderness Road, and Kentucky Drug Court.
