Wild Game Dinners Planned at Four State Parks

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Four Kentucky State Parks have special wild game meals scheduled in February, March and April that will whet your appetite!


Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park at Calvert City will hold its Elk and Bison Buffet and Local Artist Showcase on Feb. 20.


Guests can enjoy a delicious meal from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. that includes bison steamship round carved on the line, wild boar with honey chipotle barbecue sauce, cornmeal-dusted catfish, homemade elk meatloaf, Southern fried chicken, spicy duck stir-fry, Cajun frog legs, bison taco pie, bison chili, vegetables, and desserts including banana pudding and baked Alaska. The cost is $19.99 for adults and $9.99 for children 5-12. Children under 5 free.  Local artists will showcase their work through displays, demonstrations and hands on involvement with the public from noon to 6 p.m. in the lodge lobby.

Jenny Wiley State Resort Park at Prestonsburg is featuring its Buffalo Night on

Feb. 27 from noon to 8 p.m.


Enjoy a festive buffet meal of buffalo meat and all the fixings including carved buffalo, chuckwagon meatloaf, fried chicken, buffalo chili, catfish with hushpuppies, and pulled buffalo brisket. Assorted vegetables and desserts will also be served. Planned nature and recreation activities are available as well. Bring the whole family to this annual event.  Serving noon to 8 p.m. $17.95 plus tax for adults, 6-12 is $8.95. Ages 5 and under are free. Drink not included.


You can also learn of the Cherokee Indians ways and culture as Jeff Hatmaker, in full attire, will demonstrate and discuss many Native American subjects at 6 p.m. Also enjoy the cowboy stylings of Rob McNurlin as he sings songs of the old west and much more. Starts at 7 p.m. 


Rough River Dam State Resort Park is hosting its Buffalo Buffet on March 5 from 4-8 p.m. Seatings will be at 4 p.m., 5:30 and 7 p.m. The menu will feature carved buffalo roast, duck and dumplings, frog legs, elk meatloaf, buffalo stew, buffalo chili, catfish, smokes wild boar along with vegetables, soup and salad bar. The price is $23.95 plus tax for adults, $10.95 for ages 6-12 and under 5 are free. Call 270-257-2311 for reservations.


Natural Bridge State Resort Park in Slade is hosting its Appalachian Heritage Wild Game Feast on April 23 from noon to 8 p.m.


The wild game buffet will include roasted top round of bison carved to order, Ale-8 One country ham, tender barbecue buffalo ribs, buffalo meatloaf and buffalo burgers, venison and rabbit burgoo, snapping turtle soup, and all the fixings. There will also be a dessert bar including baked Alaska.


There will be a free Bluegrass concert by Mike Creech and Southern Blend between 5-7 p.m. in the Hemlock Lodge lobby.


The buffet is $21.95 for adults, $8.95 for children ages 6-12 and children under 6 eat free.
