FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 2, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed David E. Williams, of London, to the position of interim Magistrate for the First District of Laurel County, replacing the Honorable Roy Crawford, who recently passed away.

“I am honored to be selected by Gov. Bevin to serve out the balance of Squire Crawford’s term,” said Williams. “Roy served our community with dedication and distinction for more than 20 years on the fiscal court, and whoever replaces him will have big shoes to fill. That’s one reason I will not be a candidate and only asked to serve in a temporary role, so that whoever is ultimately elected will have broad local support.”

Currently, Williams is an owner of Bush Fire Services and BFS Transportation. Like his father and grandfather, David is a lifelong Laurel County resident and active volunteer in the community. Previously, he served as the Emergency Management Coordinator in Laurel County for nearly 14 years, in what was then a mostly part-time and volunteer position. He and his wife, Amy, reside in the small hamlet of Bush.

Williams’ appointment takes effect immediately, and he will serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
