Gov. Bevin Makes Appointments to Kentucky Boards and Commissions

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 5, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky Boards and Commissions:

Jeffrey Scott Jobe and Melissa Chastain have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television.

  • Jeffrey Scott Jobe, of Glasgow, is a newspaper owner. He will serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022; and
  • Melissa Chastain, of Anchorage, is an associate dean at Spalding University. She will serve for a term expiring June 30, 2022.

The Kentucky Authority for Educational Television is comprised of nine members: five members appointed by the Governor and four other members, including the chief state school officer, a representative of the Department of Education, a representative of the University of Kentucky and a representative of the state universities. The Authority was created in 1962 to govern and operate Kentucky Educational Television (KET), the largest PBS network in the nation.

Gerald J. Plappert Jr., Rene Brown, and Charles B. Vinson have been appointed as members of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority Board of Directors and the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation Board of Directors.

  • Gerald J. Plappert Jr., of Louisville, is a business investor. He will serve for a term expiring July 15, 2022; and
  • Rene Brown, of Louisville, is a healthcare executive and pastor. He will serve for a term expiring July 15, 2022; and
  • Charles B. Vinson, of Murray, is retired. He will serve for a term expiring July 15, 2022.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) Board of Directors and the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation (KHESLC) Board of Directors is a public corporation, governmental agency and instrumentality of the Commonwealth established in 1966 to improve students’ access to higher education. KHEAA/KHESLC administers several financial aid programs and disseminates information about higher education opportunities. The appointees are selected by the Governor from a list submitted by the Postsecondary Education Nominating Commission, and members serve four-year terms.
