FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2018) – Gov. Matt Bevin was joined by the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, Sen. Brandon Smith, Rep. Chris Fugate and local officials to announce planned renovations at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park, including a new roof for the lodge facility.
The project will replace the roof over the lodge room wings and business office and repair the roof decking, gutters and downspouts. The project is part of the Governor’s continued commitment to the “Refreshing the Finest” park improvement initiative with the support of the General Assembly.
“Buckhorn State Resort Park is home to some of Kentucky’s most dramatic and beautiful landscapes and is a jewel in our state park system,” said Gov. Bevin. “The park’s lodge provides a respite for the thousands of anglers and wildlife enthusiasts that visit the park each year. The new roof project will provide needed repairs to the roof over the lodge room wings and business office, ensuring that the lodge can continue to welcome guests for generations to come. Kudos to the Tourism Cabinet which worked to fund this important project and strives every day to provide the best possible experience for state park guests.”
"We had a productive meeting with local community members in August to discuss ways to increase traffic to Buckhorn Lake,” Sec. Parkinson said. “We know this new roof will help, but we were also impressed with several other ideas brought to the table at our meeting. New events are coming, and we are excited for the future at Buckhorn Lake State Park.”
The state park system is facing deferred maintenance costs of $234 million. Gov. Bevin and lawmakers provided an extra $18 million in 2016 that funded 133 “Refreshing the Finest” parks projects. An additional $20 million was approved this year for parks projects and maintenance.
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park has a 36-room lodge, cottages, restaurant, marina, beach, 1,200-acre lake, and some of the most unique and beautiful scenery in Kentucky.
