FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 20, 2019) – First Lady Glenna Bevin on Saturday announced the winning entry, as well as the second- and third-place finishers, in her annual Kentucky Derby Poster Contest.

This year's first-place winner, Allie Viney, is a 10th grader at Scott County High School. Viney will receive a $500 scholarship from Derby Celebration, Inc., and her poster will be on permanent display at the State Capitol. A copy of her artwork will also be presented to the president of the Kentucky Derby Festival, as the Governor’s traditional gift.

Viney's poster will be available for purchase in April in the Governor’s office (700 Capital Avenue, Room 100, Frankfort) or through the First Lady’s website (http://firstlady.ky.gov).

Abigail Abrams, a 10th grader at South Warren High School, had the second-place entry and will receive a $300 scholarship from Derby Celebration, Inc. Kole Hester, a 10th grade student at Russell High School (Greenup County), had the third-place entry and will receive a $200 scholarship.

All Kentucky high school students were invited to participate in the contest. Students were asked to submit their artwork, based on the following theme: “What does the Kentucky Derby look like to you?”

"Each year, Matt and I are so impressed by the outstanding entries we receive from Kenutcky's high school students," said Mrs. Bevin. "It is always a challenge to choose a winning poster design from such a talented group of young people. We congratulate the three finalists and look forward to seeing where their talents take them in life."
