FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 9, 2019) – Gov. Matt Bevin today vetoed House Bill 358, which the General Assembly passed on the final day of the 2019 legislative session in an attempt to provide pension relief for Kentucky's quasi-governmental entities.
"Throughout the course of creating public awareness of the dire condition of our public employee retirement systems, I have stated repeatedly that we have a moral and legal obligation to protect the benefits earned by our public sector retirees," begins Gov. Bevin's veto message. "While I appreciate the work of our legislators who worked dilligently to protect the services provided by many quasi-government entities, parts of HB 358 violate both the moral and legal obligation we have to these very retirees."
