Inaugural Worship Service to Offer Prayers for All Kentucky Leaders

Worshipers will collect toys, coats for Frankfort families

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 7, 2019) – Religious leaders representing faith traditions across Kentucky will lead a nondenominational worship service on inauguration day, praying for all Kentucky’s elected leaders.

The service will begin Tuesday, Dec. 10. at 8:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Frankfort and offers a solemn preparation for the events of the day.

Kentuckians are invited to attend the service, which does have limited seating, or watch online at https://www.facebook.com/1stChristianFrankfort/. For those in Frankfort, the Frankfort Plant Board will also carry the service coverage on channels 10 and 510.

To support Kentucky’s vulnerable families, worshipers are invited to bring coats and toys to donate to local organizations.

“Faith is a Kentucky value and for my family it is foundational,” said Gov.-elect Andy Beshear. “The service is an important time to come together and pray for our Commonwealth and all our leaders. I deeply appreciate the continued prayers of Kentuckians as we begin the work that lies ahead.”

The worship service will include music from the choirs of Bates Memorial Baptist Church and Kentucky State University. Messages and prayers will be offered by Dr. Charisse L. Gillett of Lexington Theological Seminary; Rabbi Joe Rooks Rapport of the Temple (Congregation Adath Israel Brith Sholom) of Louisville; The Reverend Rob Shrader of Beargrass Christian Church of Louisville; Reverend Dr. John T. Opsata of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Frankfort; and Reverend Dr. Valerie J. Washington of Hughlett Temple A.M.E. Zion Church of Louisville.

Coats of all sizes will be donated to Coats for Kids, a Frankfort charitable organization, which works with local schools to identify families in need this season. Toy donations will be given to Simon House, a local organization that supports mothers and their children who need stable housing.

Gov.-elect Andy Beshear and Lt. Gov.-elect Jacqueline Coleman will be sworn into office during a full day of festivities, Tuesday, Dec. 10. For updates, additional information, including a map and designated parking areas visit the inauguration website at kentucky.gov/inauguration.
