Valerie Moore Promoted to Internal Policy Analyst III in Adult Institutions

Kentucky Department of Corrections Adult Institutions Branch Manager Debbie Kays announced today the promotion of Valerie Moore to internal policy analyst III in the Office of Adult Institutions located in Central Office.

“Moore’s attention to detail and commitment to the department and its mission proves her to be a true corrections professional,” said Kays. “Her dedication and knowledge of multiple areas of corrections makes her a valuable asset to Adult Institutions.”

Moore began her career with state government in the Legislative Research Commission in January 2005. In April of the same year she transferred to the Office of the Attorney General, where she worked until May 2008. It was at that time that Moore began her career with the Department of Corrections in Offender Information Services, working with complex sentence calculations, good time credits and parole releases. She transferred to the Education Branch in June 2010, where she assisted the staff and the branch manager in the transition from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) back to the department’s oversight of education.

In 2012, she transferred to the executive secretary position for the deputy commissioner of Adult Institutions. This multifaceted position included working closely with wardens, facilitating large group meetings, purchasing supplies for Central Office, coordinating correspondence with the Justice Cabinet and Governor’s Office, among many other duties. For more than a year prior to the promotion to her current position, she fulfilled the duties of executive secretary to the interim commissioner in addition to her regular duties in the Office of Adult Institutions.

Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in communications from Lambuth University in 2001 and a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University in 2003. She is currently participating in the 2018-19 Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program.
