FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 24, 2021) – Kentucky Department of Corrections Administrative Services Director Michael McKinney announced today the promotion of Tonya Hunter to assistant director of the department’s Division of Administrative Services.
“Tonya Hunter’s experience within our facilities is a tremendous asset to the Administrative Services team,” said McKinney. “She has a drive and work ethic that will make Administrative Services an even stronger resource to our DOC fiscal offices.”
Hunter began her career with the Department of Corrections in March 2006 as an accountant III at Frankfort Career Development Center. After only four months she promoted to accountant IV at the Kentucky State Reformatory (KSR) in LaGrange. While at KSR she also worked in other areas of the institution such as the inmate canteen, staff canteen, and as a member of the ACA internal audit team. She went on to work at Roederer Correctional Complex as fiscal manager from July 2008 to March 2018. In July 2021, Hunter returned to Corrections as an internal auditor for the Division of Administrative Services.
In addition to her primary duties at the prisons, Hunter also served as staff canteen board member, firearms instructor, and a crisis negotiation team member and regional leader. She was very involved in many functions of the institutions.
Hunter is a graduate of the 2015 Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program.
