Frankfort, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2023) – Green River Correctional Complex (GRCC) in Central City passed its recent Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) audit. Signed into law Sept. 4, 2003, PREA is intended to address the detection, prevention, reduction, and prosecution of sexual abuse and harassment in correctional facilities throughout the country.
The audit team consisted of PREA auditor Lori Fadorick, contracted by the American Correctional Association.
“I got the opportunity to visit GRCC during a lockdown due to a COVID outbreak. What could have been a difficult situation to conduct an audit was a very seamless and efficient process,” said Fadorick. “I got to witness firsthand the teamwork, professionalism, resilience, and great attitude displayed by the staff in carrying out their duties.”
“GRCC continues an established history of professionally meeting national PREA standards. Their continuous effort to not only maintain PREA compliance but to exceed standards where possible underscores their commitment to the safety of offenders and staff. I am proud of GRCC and their accomplishment,” said Deputy Commissioner Randy White.
Agency PREA Coordinator Pamela Clayton emphasized that PREA compliance is an ongoing process and not easily maintained. “PREA compliance is not something that can be achieved by a single person. It requires constant effort at all levels of the facility,” said Clayton. “This successful audit makes it clear that the GRCC staff are committed to ensuring sexual safety for inmates and full compliance with the PREA standards.”
“The staff at GRCC did all the work and should get all the credit,” said Warden Tim Lane. “Even in challenging times, they continue to demonstrate their professionalism and commitment to inmate and staff safety. I am very proud of their effort.”
PREA audits consist of 45 national standards that ensure compliance with all facets of this federal legislation. The last PREA audit conducted at GRCC was in 2020, which also resulted in a passing score.
