Mitchell King Promoted to Probation and Parole District 8 Supervisor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 1, 2023) – Department of Corrections (DOC) Probation and Parole Division Director Erica Hargis today announced the promotion of Mitchell King to supervisor of District 8. District 8 covers Bath, Breathitt, Clark, Estill, Lee, Madison, Menifee, Montgomery, Owsley, Powell, Rowan and Wolfe counties.

“Mitchell King is dedicated and committed to the mission of the department,” said Hargis. “In addition to a strong work ethic and passion for the job, King brings varied experience and a significant number of years of service to this position. He has a proven track record of accomplishing goals and successfully completing projects. We are lucky to have him as the new District 8 supervisor.”

After interning with District 8 in 2006, King was hired in 2007 as a probation and parole officer in Montgomery County. In 2009, he transferred to the Madison County office where he supervised clients living in Madison County. During his career as an officer, King supervised clients on parole, mandatory reentry supervision and home incarceration, as well as clients on felony and misdemeanant probation and diversion. He also supervised specialized caseloads including a low caseload, inmates at the Bluegrass Career Development Reentry Service Center, and clients at the Liberty Place Recovery Kentucky Center. Additional duties included serving as a DNA collection trainer, field training officer, PREA investigator, district fire safety officer, and the class D officer for the Madison County Detention Center.

King was promoted to assistant supervisor in District 8 in 2017 where he supervised officers assigned to Madison and Clark counties.

A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, King earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2005 and a master’s degree in criminal justice in 2006. He is a graduate of the 2015 Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program. He was the recipient of the DOC Achievement Award for District 8 in 2017.
