Special Meeting Called of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 11, 2019) — A special called meeting of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission commences at 11 a.m. (Eastern) on Friday, July 12.

The meeting will be at the Arnold Mitchell Building on the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ campus in Frankfort. It is open for the public.

The special called meeting involves the tiebreaker votes for special commission permits for deer, turkey and waterfowl. Commission members previously cast votes at their last regular meeting in June, which resulted in ties for these permit awards.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission is a nine-member board, comprised of volunteers who serve four-year terms after nomination by licensed hunters and anglers, appointed by the governor, and confirmed by the Kentucky senate.

The commission recommends hunting, fishing and boating regulations on behalf of the sportsmen and sportswomen of the Commonwealth. It also awards special commission permits for deer, turkey, waterfowl or elk to non-profit wildlife conservation organizations. By state regulation, the commission may award a maximum of 10 special permits for these game species, and qualifying organizations may receive up to one permit each, per year. Proceeds from the sale of the permits must be used for conservation projects in Kentucky and approved by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The special called meeting will adjourn after the tiebreaking votes are tallied and award recipients are announced.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s main campus is located at 1 Sportsman’s Lane (formerly 1 Game Farm Road) in Frankfort. The entrance is located off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of U.S. 127.
