Trick-or-Treat at the Salato Wildlife Education Center

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 3, 2019) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources encourages youngsters – and the young at heart – to put on their costumes and join the Salato Wildlife Education Center staff in Frankfort for a unique trick-or-treat experience on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Salato’s annual Halloween Walk with the Animals features child-friendly activities including a hay bale maze, “Creatures of the Night” exhibit, face painting, and – of course – plenty of candy. Children will receive a “passport” which they can get stamped at more than a dozen candy stations. Salato staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. The center’s indoor and outdoor wildlife exhibits also will be open for viewing. The event features food and beverage vendors, as well.

The center opens at noon (Eastern) for the event, which runs until 4 p.m. Event admission is $5 per person. Annual membership holders and children ages 2 and younger receive free admission.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation sponsors Halloween Walk with the Animals. Proceeds from the event benefit the Salato Center.

Halloween Walk with the Animals allows families to enjoy the traditions of Halloween and provides a great opportunity for visitors to see and learn more about Kentucky’s native wildlife.

“Halloween Walk with the Animals is a great community event that we look forward to each season,” said Conservation Educator Geoff Roberts. “The Salato Center provides a unique venue, as well as a fun environment in which families can safely enjoy the holiday.”

Event tickets can be purchased in person at the center on Oct. 26 or in advance at kentuckywildlife.com.

The Salato Center is operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, located at 1 Sportsman’s Lane (formerly 1 Game Farm Road) in Frankfort. The entrance is off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of U.S. 127.

Normal hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Salato is closed on Sunday, Monday and state holidays. The center will close for the winter after Nov. 27, then reopen in the spring of 2020.

Except for select events, admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 18. Children 4 and younger are admitted free. The center also offers annual memberships for individuals and families.
