FRANKFORT, Ky. (February 21, 2022) – Attorney General Daniel Cameron today announced that an investigation by his Medicaid Fraud Unit led to the conviction of Sherry J. Boyd, 34, of Grand Rivers, for defrauding the Kentucky Medical Assistance Program (also known as Medicaid).
An investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Unit found that from August 2, 2018, to March 13, 2020, Boyd submitted a series of fraudulent timesheets to Four Rivers Behavioral Health (Four Rivers), while acting as a Participant Directed Services employee of a juvenile Medicaid recipient who was receiving services under the Michelle P. Waiver Program.
Based on the documentation submitted to them, staff at Four Rivers processed and billed Medicaid for services. Investigators later confirmed these services were not provided, as they overlapped with employment records from another job that Boyd held. Because of these fraudulent claims, Boyd received $16,025.06 in payments.
On February 16, 2022, Boyd pleaded guilty to one count of Devising or Engaging in a Scheme to Defraud the Kentucky Medical Assistance Program of $300 or More (a Class D Felony). At a sentencing hearing, Boyd entered the supervised pre-trial diversion program, and her sentence was diverted for a period of five years. She was ordered to pay restitution to the Kentucky Medical Assistance Program in the amount of $16,025.06.
