Attorney General Coleman, Congressman James Comer Host Local Law Enforcement Roundtable

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2026)- Attorney General Russell Coleman and Congressman James Comer (R-KY-01) heard directly from sworn local law enforcement leaders in the Lake Cumberland region during a roundtable discussion Tuesday in Somerset.

The roundtable discussion gave police, sheriffs, and jailers an opportunity to express department-specific needs to these state and federal leaders so they could continue supporting them.

“As Kentucky’s chief law enforcement officer, it’s my duty to come alongside the fine men and women of law enforcement and support them however and whenever we can,” said Attorney General Coleman. “Congressman Comer shares that goal, and I’m grateful to have his pro police leadership that prioritizes public safety.”

Attorney General Coleman began the roundtable by remembering the service and sacrifice of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, who was laid to rest on Sunday following his line-of-duty death.

“Trooper Hayden Phillips’ sacrifice is a stark reminder of the heavy weight of the badge and of our responsibility to support the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our families safe,” Attorney General Coleman continued. “As we saw in Bowling Green earlier this week as we gathered to honor Hayden, our Commonwealth produces the finest lawmen and women in the nation.”

“I’m proud to support the brave men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to protect communities across Kentucky. Our hearts remain with the family and loved ones of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips as we continue to remember and honor his life and service. I appreciate Attorney General Russell Coleman bringing Kentucky’s law enforcement leaders together today to discuss how we can better support the Kentucky State Police and strengthen public safety. I will continue working alongside our law enforcement officers and local leaders to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs," said Congressman Comer.

The meeting is the second of its kind organized by General Coleman and Congressman Comer to hear more about the challenges facing Kentucky’s law enforcement.
