FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2018) — The public boat ramp at Bullock Pen Lake, a 148-acre reservoir in Grant County, will close Sept. 10 for construction of a new ramp and parking lot. The new project is expected to be finished by spring of 2019.
The ramp, which is being relocated to a nearby cove to provide a better launching site for boaters, will feature several significant upgrades.
“The new ramp will be longer to accommodate lower water levels,” said David Baker, Central Fisheries District biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “We will also build a new paved lot with 20 parking spots for trailers and vehicles. We also plan to install a courtesy dock for loading and unloading boats.”
The existing ramp will no longer be available for launching boats as dirt from the new road grade will block it. Bank anglers will still be able to use the lower end of the existing ramp.
After completion of the project, boaters will be able to park in the lot and use the ramp free of charge. Users paid a fee to park at the existing ramp.
The new ramp is in the upper portion of the Bullock Pen arm of the lake, off I-75 exit 166, then west on KY 2363 and left on Violet Road. It is the only public ramp on the lake.
