FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 26, 2018) — The public pistol range at John A. Kleber Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Owen County is open again.
The range closed earlier this year after rounds of heavy rains damaged portions of the tall earthen berms surrounding it. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources personnel restored the berms and stabilized them with vegetation.
The pistol range is adjacent to the tube rifle range on the WMA. Both ranges are free for the public to use on a first-come, first-serve basis. They are open from 9 a.m. until sunset Tuesday through Saturday, and from noon until sunset on Sundays, but closed on Mondays for maintenance.
Only pistols can be used at the pistol range. Tube shooting ranges are for rifles, muzzle loading guns and shotguns loaded with single projectile slugs. They are not for use by shooters using pistols or shotguns with pelleted loads.
Anybody using the ranges must have eye and ear protection and follow all rules as posted by signage.
