FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 4, 2019) — The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will conduct its regular quarterly meeting in Frankfort on Friday, June 7, to consider possible hunting and fishing regulation changes and other items.
The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern) in the Arnold Mitchell Building on the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ campus. It is open for the public.
The Commission will consider several proposals, including:
- Maintaining the elk quota hunt permit allotment at 594 for 2020-2021 season
- Adding an online-only hunter education option, and a hunter education requirement for children of landowners
- Adjusting the length of bullfrog season
- Removing the three-shell limit on shotguns for snow goose conservation order season following a recent statutory change
- Initiating surveys on elk population and reproduction, eastern hellbenders and public shooting range interests and needs
- A size and creel limit on cutthroat trout in the Cumberland tailwater
Special Commission Permits also are on the agenda.
The Commission, per state law, can issue up to 10 special permits each year for turkey, deer, elk and waterfowl. Nonprofit wildlife conservation organizations may apply for these special permits each spring. Conserving and enhancing fish and wildlife resources to provide opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping or other related activities should be a primary purpose of the organization, as stated in the organization’s articles or bylaws. Awarded permits can be auctioned or sold by the organization. However, all net proceeds must be used for wildlife conservation projects in Kentucky. The complete agenda for the meeting also is available on the department’s website at fw.ky.gov. A video replay of the committee meetings will be posted online via the “Commission and Committee Meeting Archive” link under “Important Info” on the department’s homepage.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s main campus is located at 1 Sportsman’s Lane (formerly 1 Game Farm Road) in Frankfort. The entrance is located off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of U.S. 127.
