FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 14, 2020) — High water from the Ohio River continues to impact portions of West Kentucky Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in McCracken County.
Due to flooding, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is adjusting the number of spots available for the area’s open firearms deer hunt scheduled Jan. 18-20.
The first 115 hunters who appear at the designated check-in station from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time on Friday, and between 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time from Saturday through Monday, will be allowed to participate in the hunt. This represents a reduction of 25 spots from the original limit.
Roads in Tract 6 of the WMA will be closed by signage to prevent damage to roads and to minimize safety hazards for participating hunters.
This one-time change in hunter spots and lack of access to roads in Tract 6 will not affect the general rules for this shotgun and muzzleloader deer hunting opportunity.
