Gov. Beshear Presents Over $2.5 Million To Benefit Trigg County

CADIZ, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2023) – Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced more than $2.5 million in awards to benefit Trigg County. The funding will support safe disposal of household hazardous waste, support site and building development and expand access to high-speed internet for residents and businesses.

“Today’s announcements will provide Trigg County families with resources they need to thrive, including increased economic opportunity and access to high-speed internet to keep them connected to work, school, health care and more,” said Gov. Beshear. “I’ve always said that our people are our best investment, and with announcements like these, we are working to ensure every Kentucky family has every opportunity imaginable right in their hometown.”

Energy and Environment Cabinet Award
The Governor presented $11,000 from the Energy and Environment Cabinet to Trigg County. The funding will support efforts to help residents safely dispose of household hazardous waste.

Kentucky Product Development Initiative Funding
The Governor highlighted an award to Trigg County that he announced in June as part of over $2.5 million awarded to further job creation and economic momentum in 11 counties.

The state is providing $225,000 to the Trigg County Fiscal Court for its $450,000 project in partnership with the Cadiz-Trigg County Industrial Development Authority to construct a new wastewater pump station at the Interstate-24 Business Park.

High-Speed Internet Expansion
As part of his commitment to connect every home and business in Kentucky to affordable, reliable high-speed internet, last week, Gov. Beshear announced a record $386 million investment to expand access in 46 counties, bringing high-speed internet access to more than 42,600 homes and businesses for the first time.

Today, Gov. Beshear presented more than $2.3 million of these funds to bring high-speed internet service to homes and businesses across Trigg County. The awards are the result of a bipartisan agreement signed into law by Gov. Beshear in April 2021 that allocated $300 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars to the Kentucky Broadband Deployment Fund.

Legislators who represent Trigg County celebrated today’s announcements.

“Access to high-speed internet in today’s technologically advanced world keeps families connected in their communities,” said Sen. Jason Howell of Murray.  “Providing clean water and household hazardous waste services allows local leaders to focus on other issues that move Kentucky forward – things like better education, workforce development and growing our local economy all promote progress we all can appreciate.”

“It is very exciting to see such integral funding coming to Trigg County,” said Rep. Mary Beth Imes of Murray. “Updating our infrastructure is vital in our mission to support local commerce and development. I look forward to seeing the benefits of these updates take root in our community as a result of the hard work done by the legislature.”

“I am very pleased to take part in this announcement for such integral funding for our community,” said Rep. Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville. “Whether it is water infrastructure, funding for hazardous waste recycling or broadband assistance, the legislature has fought to make sure our local facets are taken care of. I look forward to seeing these projects take shape.”
