The Kentucky Artisan Center will feature demonstrations by artists working with wood, showcasing both woodcarving and bowl making on Saturdays throughout March.

Saturday, March 7
• 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Character Carvings Demonstrated by Bruce Jones
On Saturday, March 7, Bruce Jones, of Paris, will demonstrate his woodcarving techniques. Woodcarvings vary with the person doing the carving, and Jones likes to carve characters. Character carvings usually depict a distinct individual and can be colored with paints, inks or detailed with a wood burning tool.
Saturday, March 14

Ron McWhorter Creates Hand-hewn Dough Bowls
On Saturday, March 14, Ron McWhorter, of Richmond, will demonstrate how he carves oval wooden dough bowls by hand. Using a tool called an Adz, McWhorter chops a half log into a finished oval bowl. He is a member of the Berea Welcome Center Carvers and often demonstrates at the Center with this group.

Jack Gann and Keith Flowers Demonstrate Woodcarving
On Saturday, March 21, Jack Gann and Keith Flowers, two members of the Berea Welcome Center Carvers will demonstrate woodcarving at the Center. These two carvers will explain their individual carving techniques and show visitors how they color their works with inks, paint and stains. This Central-Kentucky group demonstrates on the third Saturday of every month at the Kentucky Artisan Center.

William Rogers Carves Cottonwood Bark
On Saturday, March 28, William Rogers, of Harrodsburg, will carve houses and characters from cottonwood bark. Rogers uses large pieces of cottonwood bark from downed trees to created intricate carvings of castle-like houses. His carvings are highly detailed and whimsical in nature.
The Kentucky Artisan Center is an agency in the Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Located just off I-75 at Berea Exit 77, the Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. offering traveler services, shopping, exhibits and Saturday artist demonstrations. The Artisan Café & Grill is open for breakfast and lunch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
