State Treasurer Metcalf Commends Shelby County Treasurer for Fourth Consecutive Clean Audit

FRANKFORT, Ky (June 17, 2025) – Kentucky State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf visited the Shelby County Courthouse to recognize County Treasurer Sheila McGee and her staff—Finance Officer Samantha Montgomery and Finance Clerk Alicia Whisman—for achieving a clean audit for the fourth year in a row.

“Shelby County’s financial integrity sets a high standard for the entire Commonwealth,” said Treasurer Metcalf. “Treasurer McGee and her team have demonstrated exceptional discipline and transparency in managing taxpayer dollars. Their fourth consecutive clean audit is a testament to their professionalism and dedication to public service.”

The most recent audit was conducted by the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts; the previous three were performed by private firms. A clean audit—meaning no findings, deficiencies, or recommendations—is increasingly rare and reflects the highest standards of financial management. Metcalf met with McGee and her staff to personally congratulate them on this achievement, which highlights their commitment to accuracy, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public funds.

“Our Treasurer’s Office exemplifies what local government should be—efficient, transparent, and committed to doing things the right way,” said Judge Executive Dan Ison. “Sheila and her staff go above and beyond to serve our community with integrity and professionalism, and this fourth consecutive clean audit proves it. We’re proud of their work and grateful for their dedication.”

McGee has served as County Treasurer since 2017. She oversees county finances, including budget implementation, payroll, and the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports. Her office ensures that public dollars are handled efficiently, transparently, and in accordance with Kentucky’s fiscal laws.

Treasurer Metcalf’s visit underscores the importance of local leaders who uphold the highest standards of financial responsibility and public trust.
